  • Title: Hecke Algebras and Representations of Finite Groups of Lie Type
  • Description: This thesis provides a self-contained introduction to Hecke algebras and the theory of ordinary representations of finite groups. We will briefly discuss finite groups of Lie type and derive some of their basic properties by using the notion of Tits systems. In particular, we investigate a connection, first described by Iwahori, relating the group algebra of a Weyl group to a certain Hecke algebra. As an application of the theory, we split the character of GL(3, q) induced by the trivial character of the Borel subgroup.
